"Included Bark" discribes the weak attatchment of limbs to trunks.  Due to acute angles between limbs and trunks, normal diameter growth is restricted.  A flat side on the limb or trunk produces a weak point.

Included bark is responsible for over 90% of failures to trees.  High winds put stress on branch attatchments with included bark causing the weak area to split and rip until the limbs completely fail.  Often times trees can not be salvaged and must be removed entirely.
